The root of the vetiver plant is used to make medicines. Vetiver is sometimes used by individuals that suffer from circulation and nerve problems. The essential oil is combined with a carrier oil and applied to the skin to help with relieving stress, shock, lice, and also with the repelling of insects. Vetiver can also be used in aromatherapy to help relieve nervousness, insomnia and muscle and joint pain. However, additional research should be conducted to fully understand the properties of the plant outside of medication manufacturing.
]]>Spearmint has a sweeter, slightly milder fragrance than peppermint. Spearmint’s fragrant properties can be quite refreshing, and is often used as a "pick me up" oil. The oil is thought to uplift the spirit and increase alertness. When used in a diffuser as aromatherapy the qualities of spearmint are similar to those of menthol which is used to decrease respiratory congestion. Like lavender, however, it can also be used sparingly at bedtime to bring about a sense of calm and relaxation. Spearmint has been included in various products such soaps and facial toners. It is better suited for children than peppermint and is good for upset tummies, nausea, and fever. (Please consult your healthcare provider before administering to children.) Spearmint blends well with lavender, jasmine, bergamot, orange, and sandalwood.

]]>Today, we will discuss Agarwood essential oil. (This is not a product that we currently carry in our store.) Agarwood oil comes from Agar tree that is found in Southeast Asia. The oil is produced from the resin that has been infected by mold of the tree. This resin is very fragrant and is used in the creation of incense, perfume, and small carvings.
Because of the natural process that must occur before Agarwood oil can be produced, one ounce of the wild crafted oil can retail for over $1500. Agarwood oud oil has been known for the following properties:
*Antipruritic-relieves itching
*Analgesic-pain reliever
* muscle relaxation- decreases the tension in muscles
These are but a few of the properties of use in both Tibetan and traditional Chinese medicine.

After a bit of research it was found that cayenne pepper has several medicinal properties that may improve one's mood. Cayenne supports the immune system because it is rich in vitamins and minerals (Apelian & Davis, 2020).
Another common spice found in homes is cinnamon. Cinnamon has been thought to assist with blood sugar control, cholesterol, and possesses anti-inflammatory properties.
Epsom salts are commonly known in home remedies to detoxifying the body and soaking to reduce pain and inflammation in sore muscles.
From speaking with others, it was also noted that the ingestion of local raw honey may help with seasonal allergies.

]]>However, as we continued to grow and progress throughout our various professions we began to loose the basic information that was shared for quite some time. Which leads to the saying, "everything that a person needs to heal themselves can be found in nature"(anonymous). This statement is quite true. If one would ponder just for a second, one would realize that every medication that is now used to treat ailments derives from either a plant or animal. This one thought, this one statement, led me to start researching the various properties of the plants that surround me. I also began to ask some of the older members of the family about the uses of plants and oils. Unfortunately, much of the knowledge had been lost. I now seek to assist those that wish to take a more natural path towards health and wellness.
